You look forward to designing your bedroom. Can there be mistakes? Yes! So you bought your new home and went to your nearby furniture stores. Bought all the necessary furnitures, decorative and potted plants, bring home and placed them wherever you want. Suddenly, it comes to your consensus that you have done dreadful mistakes…

Let us discuss on some most common mistakes people made when designing own bedroom.

Putting a random colour

What it means? You ask. It means when out of the blue, you have an inspiration to add a random colour to your bedroom, especially the wall. If you like a particular colour and you just add it on the wall without analysing whether it blend in with the other colours in your bedroom, you create this mistake. So many times, we will see awkward looking colour out of no where, which doesn’t seems to fit in. Like a paint of green out of mostly colour of blue or purple. It just looks terrible.

Having head board too high for bed

Well, some head board is so high that it looks awkward. You don’t need a head board that reaches the ceiling. You can have one that is not too high or too low. If you think your wall is bland, then please add a painting or decorative. Your friends will laugh at you for this silliness.

Do you need one so high as to reach the heaven? Besides, having higher head board means higher cost too!

Too much patterns

I know people loves patterns. Myself included, who wouldn’t? But do you know, putting patterns into bedroom design is one of the hardest thing to do. It is because patterns are so plentiful and complicated. One need to be a pro to do it right. The mistakes is when people put too many types of pattern into their bedroom. Bed sheet, lamp shades, carpet, wall colours, wardrobe, all of different patterns. You will feel uneasy and get sick of it.

My advice is, Have bigger patterns on the wall. Then add smaller patterns for your pillow or blanket, that compliment each other. They should be rather similar colours. Best is if they are same colour but different shades.  Each type of pattern also have its own theme. Like the oriental style pattern, the English style pattern and so on. They just need to match.

Everything tufted

I know you love elegant stuff- and tufted is one of them. You are one who also admire the finer stuff of things, especially tufted which looks so English and reminds you of queen Victoria era. But wait a minute, there cannot be one too many. It just too complicated things out. Having one will do, but not too many.

It just looks weird if everything tufted. So please think again if you want to get it.

The red room

No, I’m not talking about a scene from your favourite horror story book. Or scene from burlesque movie. Worst, a bdsm looking room. Red is the favourite colour for many people. But please, I beg you, not to make your bedroom looks red. Your bedroom is the place where you rest, it should look calming to your eyes. Red is like the energy colour. It is so inappropriate to use for the bedroom.

In fact, it should not be use for home at all. Your mind will not feel peace with such powerful colour. Try green instead (nature colour). This is a much better choice.

Buy furniture set

I know. Yes, I know your favourite salesman recommends that and it is probably cheaper to do it. But that is unless you want to sacrifice style. Furniture set (probably consist of bed, wardrobe, chairs) all of such similar pattern, it just spoilt the style. It is because, we should mix different style together to make it “tasteful”. There should not be too many similar design items in your room.

A flat bed

No, I’m not talking about your flat pancake that you have everyday. I mean, having bed that looks so flat and rid of anything but a pillow is a style disaster. This looks like the hostel bed. Add it with fancyful blanket, or add more different size pillows.

You should be a stylish interior designer you know? Please get a king koil bed too, to make it posh and comfy.

Conclusion

So there it is. I hope you agree to what I say. You may leave comment below to add to the list of “worst mistakes”.
